Comments: This is the lot "behind" Jan's house. 

• It will never be sold; no plans to ever build on it. Money in the estate will be used for maintenance (mostly lawn), property taxes, and HOA fees.

SBP Vs No SBP -- June 23, 2023

This is back-of-the-envelope and very, very superficially done.

I want to compare what the next egg would have been had we not "bought / enrolled" in SBP and invested that money instead.

I never kept track of annual "cost" but starting in 2023 I will start keep records.

My spreadsheet goes back to 2007, the day I retired, but to keep it small enough to fit on this page it is only the screen shot of the past few years.

Again, very superficially:

• we have paid about $114,410 cumulative since I retired, in 2007.
• had that money been invested and returned 4%, compounded annually, it would add up to about $155,000.
• if I die today, May will be paid, tax-free, about $76,000 / year (at current SBP of $6,335.25/ month).
• $155,500 / $76,000 = 2.05 years or two years in round numbers.

I'm pretty sure if I die today, June 23, 2023), May will live another two years.
